It Worked! Or In Otherwords, We Got Us Some Eggs!

That's right! The girls are laying eggs! Finally. Chad had been getting concerned that our chickens were defective and he started saying things like "If you chickens don't start laying eggs then I might have to make you into soup!" He was kidding. Sort of. But Chicken and Waffle didn't let it get them down. Last Saturday Chad came in the house holding eggs and at first I thought it was a joke. I am not sure why, after all, we do have hens. It is now Archer's job to go get the eggs in the morning and Chad always reminds Archer that he has to say "Thank you for the eggs chickens."

Every afternoon when I sit Della in her chair to each lunch, I start to hear little taps at the back door (which is almost entirely made of glass). It is the chickens peeking into the house...

It is probably because they see this...
I think they are asking me to please hurry and sweep Della's leftovers outside so they can enjoy the feast of PB&J crusts, Goldfish Crackers, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and grapes. So maybe Della isn't being naughty when she throws all of her food on the floor. Maybe she is just feeding the chickens!

So cool. Can I bring my kids over some morning to spend a few hours on the Calder Farm? I'll put them to work, I promise!!! Love that picture of Della at the end :)

Have I mentioned how jealous I am that you have chickens? Because I am. SO. JEALOUS. Our backyard isn't big enough per our HOA, so we can't have them and I'm stuck paying money for them like a sucker when I could be "buying" them with left over pb&j.
