Just a reminder of how serious Della's condition was. We have a friend named Cindy who works in the Neo-Natal ICU at St. Jude where we took Della to the ER before we were transferred to CHOC. While in the ER we had a respiratory nurse named Sally and as we talked to her we found out that she was also friends with Cindy. Last night Cindy told us that Sally sought her out at work and wanted to know if our baby lived or died. It puts it into perspective just how serious things were.
For those of you with babies, or who know people who have babies under 2 (especially newborns) please educate yourself about RSV. It has the symptoms of a cold but there are warning signs such as loss of appetite, lethargy, cough, inability to cry, and grunting with every breath. RSV can kill babies, but there is a vaccine offered and given every 30 days throughout the season which is November to March. Many don't know it is available, and this included myself until recently. This whole ordeal could have been avoided if we had just known.
Thanks again for all of the love and support that was offered to us. I can't tell you how much those things meant to me, especially after spending the night in a hospital watching monitors and worrying. Coming home and reading the e-mails and cards that were sent to us helped me to know that we weren't alone.
