Since Della is 3 weeks old and since I had spent the previous night at urgent care, we decided on a quiet celebration at home, just the 4 of us. Archer requested brownies (OK I encouraged it a little), and he helped me make them. We got hime a glow in the dark Lego shirt and a 'Wiggles' guitar. We don't watch that show, but he sure loves the songs it plays. It's funny because every time I buy a toy that requires lots of batteries and makes an extreme amount of annoying noise, I always promise myself that it will be the last one. I always fall for them over and over again. Also, thanks to Aunt Anne for the Sponge Bob call. Archer hasn't stopped talking about it. I am glad that you were able to watch him receive it through the iChat. My favorite part was Archer asking how Sponge Bob could be talking on the phone to him and be on TV cooking Krabby Patties at the same time (we were watching the cartoon when Sponge Bob called). Thanks Anne!
Archer's current interest is bees (thanks Nana). He thought Della would be very interested to know all about honey, hives, and stingers and it seems that he was right. Della listened very intently to her brother, much to his delight.
I realize the pictures are out of order, I apologize. Anyway, much to my surprise my water broke at 2:30 AM on Sunday morning, almost 2 weeks before my due date. My Dr. was on vacation, but they contacted him anyway and he decided to comeback early from his skiing trip in Big Bear. After being in labor for 8 hours Della was delivered by c-section at 10:34 AM. She weighed 6 lbs. 9 oz. and was 18 inches long. It was a long and difficult process and we are so thankful for this tiny new member of our family, she is truly a blessing, just as all children are. Archer is trying to adjust as best as he can. He either adores his sister, or ignores her. I think he does the latter because the idea of a new sister is very overwhelming to a little 3 year old. We have gotten a lot of questions about her name. My maternal grandmother's name was Della Belle Noreen Hardman and she passed away from cancer in 1995. One day her name entered my head and it just seemed right. It is special because it is a family name and Archer carries the family name Ashal which has been passed down 5 generations on the Calder side. All in all, things are good and we are very happy that Della is here.
For New Year's Eve we went to downtown Fullerton where they shut down the street. There were several live bands, a hot air balloon that rose 25 feet, street performers, etc. People also bring sidewalk chalk and draw all over the street and as you can see we joined in on the fun. We were out of there by 8:30 because little boys don't do well later than that. Happy 2007!
